유재연 작가는 자신의 감정을 솔직하게 드러내는 인물을 통해 내면의 이야기를 풀어냅니다. 

작품 속 인물들은 작가 자신을 투영한 존재로, 말로 꺼내기 어려웠던 마음을 대신 전합니다. 

작가는 나이가 들어도 어린 시절의 감정이 크게 달라지지 않는다는 경험에서 출발해, 어른이 된다는 것의 의미를 질문합니다. 

하기 싫은 일을 해야 하는 척하거나 감정을 숨긴 채 주변에 맞추는 태도는 익숙해지지만, 그 마음 자체는 쉽게 사라지지 않는다고 말합니다.

이러한 감정은 인물의 얼굴을 통해 시각적으로 풀어지며 작품의 장면을 이룹니다.

인물은 성별을 특정하지 않지만, 어른의 얼굴에 가까운 모습으로 등장하며, 어린아이 같은 소품이나 밝고 경쾌한 색감과 함께 배치됩니다.

작가는 이 같은 대비를 통해 자라난 모습과 아직 남아 있는 감정이 한 화면 안에서 공존하는 장면을 만들어냅니다.

그의 작업은 작품 속 감정이 관람자에게도 자연스럽게 전해져, 각자의 마음과 맞닿는 공감의 순간으로 이어지기를 바라고 있습니다.

Yoo Jae Youn explores inner narratives through figures that openly express her emotions.

The figures that appear in her work function as projections of the artist herself, standing in for feelings that are difficult to articulate in words.

Her practice stems from the realization that emotions from childhood do not disappear with age, leading her to question what it truly means to become an adult.

While the act of pretending, suppressing emotions, and adapting to social expectations may become familiar over time, the emotions themselves persist. 

These emotions are conveyed visually through the faces of her figures, forming the central scenes of her work.

Although the figures are not defined by gender, they often resemble middle-aged male faces and are paired with childlike objects or bright, playful colors.

Through this contrast, Yoo creates images in which an adult exterior and enduring inner emotions coexist within a single frame.

Her work ultimately invites viewers to resonate with these emotions, opening moments of empathy where the depicted feelings naturally intersect with their own.
